An Irish wit, poet and playwright. His reputation rests on his only novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and on his comic masterpieces Lady Windermere’s Fan and The Importance of Being Earnest. He was a spokesman for the later 19th Century Aesthetic movement in England, which advocated art for art’s sake.

THE STORY

These charming Fabric Folk Kits are part of an ongoing collaboration between The Shop Floor Project and paper-cut artist Amanda White. Celebrating important figures throughout history the collection includes: Picasso, William Morris, Beatrix Potter, Caroline Herschel the astrologer, Charles Dickens, Emily Dickinson, Frida Kahlo, Marie Antoinette, Oscar Wilde, Queen Elizabeth I, Dido Belle, Mary Anning the fossil hunter, writers Virginia Woolf, Jane Austen and the Brontë sisters Anne, Charlotte and Emily. 

Amanda White’s celebrated collages of portraits and historical houses bring together her love of old buildings and literature. Trained as a theatre designer, each paper cut feels like a set design or sketch for a costume, each one drawing you into the scene and finding more, as you take in all the detail.
