THE STORY

British ceramicist Katrin Moye has created a collection of the most exquisite hand-made vessels. Designed to hold flowers, these extraordinary pieces elevate the humblest weed to that of a 17th century style still life composition.

The Artist’s Process:

Katrin showcases all of her skills as a master potter in this collection, from statuesque hand-built pieces to wheel-thrown and altered works - all created in her favoured material of red earthenware clay.

In Katrin’s Nottinghamshire studio, she begins the lengthy process of creating the collection. From initial drawings and sketches, often inspired by 17th century Delftware shapes, Katrin develops samples and glaze tests. The pieces are then thrown on the wheel or hand-built, dipped into delicious cream-white glaze and bisque fired, before each one gets their moment of glory on the decorating wheel, where Katrin applies hand-painted decoration.

Decorated with Katrin’s signature patterns, each piece is completely unique. Using Korean wolf-hair brushes Katrin has been developing her Garland designs, practising making the leaf patterns with a single brushstroke.  “I love the way the underglaze carries the sweeping mark of the brush with it; a fluid, expressive stroke permanently fixed under the glaze.”

The decorated pieces are carefully left to dry on the potter’s shelves, ready for their kiln firing - all done from Katrin’s studio.

Et voila! All finished and ready to use in your own compositions.
