In 1692, during the heady days of the Dutch Golden Age, a gentleman in Delft painstakingly created what is possibly the very first colour chart in existence - almost 300 years before the Pantone Colour Guide was launched.
The unique book, housed in the Méjanes Library in France, includes 800 pages of hand written instructions of how to make 2,000 shades of pure, diluted and blended pigments in a striking compendium which the author calls a ‘Clear Shining Mirror of the Art of Painting’.
