About
The Shop Floor Project commissioned American ceramic artist Ginny Sims to create a collection of new works based on pieces displayed in her solo exhibition, Six Towns at the White Page Gallery in Minneapolis. The Painted Parlour consists of a collection of large cups, platters and jugs in Sims' unusual and striking forms. Her work seems on the one hand very familiar - 18th century tankard shapes, servants' quarters bowls and jugs, yet the colour palette and smudgy stormy glazes feel almost Rothko-like, the combination is compelling.

Inspired by a visit to the UK, in particular the potteries in Stoke-on-Trent and a research trip deep into the archives at the V&A Museum, Ginny studied the precious Leeds pottery sketchbooks. The recipient of a variety of awards, she also lectures on the history of ceramics at the University of Minnesota.
